some kind of magic

when i first came to dark cove over 10 years ago, there was a small pool for bathing. at the brook where we get our water. it was a magic spot. the smooth rocks. the cool fresh water. the sound of the brook and the waves nearby. one weekend we came down to the cabin and a neighbour from a cabin up top had built a boat slip over the pond and removed rocks so that the brook flowed out. i was hurt and horrified at the change. over the years, the slip has fallen apart (it was almost never used and the neighbour moved away). so this weekend we removed what was left and rebuilt the pool.

eamon really got into it. a place to sit. a place for soap and shampoo. a place to put special rocks. on saturday night we walked down to the pool with flashlights and eamon bathed.

then we slowly walked back to the cabin along the ocean shore studying phosphoresence at the edge. i think that night was the highlight of my summer. so far.
