the root chakra

i've spent the past week nursing a cold, finishing and sending off a couple more yarn and kit orders, and slowly and quietly in the evenings, completing a new textile piece.

the root chakra is red. it's about energy flowing downwards and connecting you with your physical world.

beginnings and endings

it was a "large" weekend - a weekend of beginnings and endings.
1. it was the first time i'd taken part in the newfoundland provincial trade show. i have shops in st. john's, and on the west coast of the island. what i'd hoped was that i'd have a chance to meet shop owners from other parts of newfoundland who didn't yet know my product. and i did. and i now have enough orders - in newfoundland, the maritimes and across canada and even in the usa to keep me going for the forseeable future.

2. we spent the first couple of days with the grandchildren. we took finn to his first ever big screen movie (the lorax) and he was entralled. keith bought lucy "sea monkeys" (which hold the same fascinating allure now that they did when we were young). and he taught her how to do head stands. and on one of the days i was at the show, he took eamon to choose his joint parent/grandparent birthday gift - a super scooter. he turns 12 next week.

3. and i got to be with my very pregnant daughter. the newest baby is due the end of april.

4. and at the same time, keith's sweet uncle nish was dying and we spent time with family in and out of the hospital, and when nish died on monday, eamon was with us at the hospital and there was a merging of our families. of generations young and old. lives beginning and lives ending.

hittin' the road again

tomorrow i'm heading off to the newfoundland provincial craft trade show in st. john's (my last trade show of the season). this one is smaller than the orlando show and the halifax show. and i'm driving out so planning on what (and how much) to take is a lot easier. but i've still been busy - finishing off some orders that had to be mailed out before i left, and then making enough yarn and kits for a good booth display. today i'll be packing and painting the last few sets of circular needles for the shawl/scarf kits. i'll be back tuesday.

a place to read

a couple of weeks ago my grand daughter lucy discovered that she could read. she's in french immersion, so reading english kind of creeps up on you unaware. she doesn't yet realize that she has a key that will open up the world to her.
i've just recently created a beautiful reading corner for myself. it's not complete (i still need a good lamp) but it's perfect for early morning reading. my 1 cup of coffee for the day. abigail snoring beside me. the sun shining through the frost.
last week i discovered pinterest , a wonderful online site for finding and storing and sharing images - a huge scrapbook - and have been looking a photos of where people choose to read...

finn just moved from his crib/toddler bed to a big boy bed (to make room for his new baby brother who is due next month). now he has a place to read...

warm thoughts on a cold day

this is the coldest day in newfoundland in 3 years. minus 25 degrees celcius (not counting the windchill). but the sun is shining into the house with ever growing intensity. and it's march, so spring isn't too far off.
and with it, garden plans.
if you don't have a vegetable garden, you can still enjoy the beauty of locally grown organic produce. kim and cherie at the greenhouse in little rapids are once again offering weekly produce baskets. the baskets can be picked up every tuesday at the greenhouse or at a couple of spots in town. they're now taking names and are limiting the number to 40, so contact them quickly at kim@thegreenhouse.ca to get a spot.
