gleaning

i've always loved this painting by millet. the heat of the day. the quiet of work mixed with the sound of crickets and cicadas.
yesterday i watched a wonderful documentary (on netflix) about gleaning - the history of it (following along after harvest and picking up what was missed). and the present-day gleaners (like dumpster divers). something that is missing in most of our lives...
