dickens

i love dickens. as a child - the old movies - great expectations, oliver twist and of course the christmas carol. i somehow felt that i belonged in his world. my last semester at university i took a dickens course, and that summer read 5 novels. just before christmas my little book club chose "little dorrit" to read. part of the purpose of this bookclub is to stop us from being lazy readers. this was a perfect example. 100 pages in (this book is over 800 pages) i wanted to put it down. just too much work. but i pushed on and the more i read, the more i loved it. i can't get over how contemporary dickens is. how brilliant. how insightful. and his descriptions of place are poetic. yesterday was cold and stormy. keith went down to the cabin and i stayed home blanketed on the couch. a fire and a pot of tea and finished "little dorrit". and then spun up a commemorative skein.

the colours in that skein are perfect... and I admire your stick-to-it-ness in reading Dickens. I haven't tackled Dickens since shcool days but perhaps i should give him another try.
