newfoundland is an island in the north atlantic. we have no snow so far this year (unheard of in the past) but for days now we've been pummeled with high winds and especially on the east coast of the province, heavy rain. ferries have been tied up unable to navigate the high seas. hundreds of people are stranded and not able to get home for christmas. surface mail stopped reaching the province days ago. and fresh food. it's times like this that we see how vulnerable we are.
