conche

keith's mum florence is from conche. when keith was a child, conche was still an outport accessible only by boat. he would visit every summer. he hasn't been back for 20 years. now there is a road. only one uncle still lives there and uncle austin is the keeper of the dower family history. this past weekend was "garden party" and many of the relatives came back (there were 12 of us staying in austin and alice's tiny bungalo (and yes, it can be done)). it was a "large" weekend for keith. reconnecting. hearing (as if for the first time many anscestral stories). i've travelled alot in newfoundland but it was the first time i felt "part" of a small community. we're already planning an autumn trip when there are fewer people, more space and lots of time to talk...

So wonderful for you both to connect with Conche. There is something special about it for me which is hard to describe...I get lost in the petite place, maybe it's because there's so much family history there for me as well, wonderful childhood memories and even the smell of place!
Cheers, Niki
