now the fun part

all my sample skeins and kits are made and packed. all the customs documentation is complete. now for the fun part. we're leaving for orlando on sunday. set up for the acre trade show isn't until thurs. morning. so we have almost 4 days in florida to sightsee. we're renting a house (yes, with a heated pool) and a car. i know exactly what i am looking for. i want to see florida's flora and fauna. and i want to see "old" florida. i want the kitchy, 1950's florida. i want the washed out colours. i want to bring back handkerchiefs with palm trees and flamingos on them. i don't want disney or bigbox stores. so, if you have any suggestions of places to see within a day trip of orlando, please leave a comment.
ps. that's my new tablecloth that just arrived. found it on etsy.

I hope you can find it Shawn...it may take some looking. You will be in the heart of Disney Florida. Be careful driving! Given your history with driving, I am very conscious of adding any stress to your experience on the road, but I found Florida to be a challenging place to drive - the roads occupied by either very slow moving, elderly drivers or devil-may-care young men.

But enough with the negative! Have a blast, soak up the sun and enjoy what Florida has to offer, even if it isn't exactly what you expect. I will be thinking of you!! XOXOX

Head up to Mt. Dora, about an hour NW of Orlando. Just about the only place in the state with elevation...unless you make it up to the panhandle. Used to live in the area, there was a great flea market on Rt 441. If you're in the Disney area take 429 N to 441, 441 N to Mt. Dora.

You might also find some "old" FL if you head SW towards Davenport & Haines City...there will still be Big Box stores...they are everywhere but mixed in will be some good flea markets and such. If you're into flowers/gardens - Bok Tower is SW of Orlando/Kissimmee and is a really nice place to visit. Enjoy your visit!!

Also, if you're into plants/gardens, SW of Orlando is Bok Tower...a really nice garden to visit. Good luck and enjoy your trip!!!

A short drive to St. Petersburg- Pass-a-grille historic area is darling. Complete with the 'kitsch' you might be looking for. Beautiful blue water and lots of fun shell hunting. Enjoy!
